“Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” John 12.28
God’s only agenda is glorifying himself.
Think about that for more than a second.
This could be one of the most freeing statements in our Christian lives: “God’s only agenda is glorifying himself.”
It takes all pressure off us to perform, or to ‘do’. We, by God’s grace, have been swept up in God’s own mission to glorify himself.
It is not an egotistical activity of God, as if he needs the affirmation and applause and adoration. We need it (to affirm, applaud and adore). And hence he allows us to be a part of what he is doing.
If God glorified anything else, he would not be the supreme being. The very fact that he is ‘supreme’, an absolute adjective describing the creator of the universe, makes it imperative that he glorifies himself.
We are drawn into this mission when we allow Christ to take us into HIS-story. We are then given the mandate, in this mission, to introduce more people to Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit (who glorifies the Son) so Jesus can glorify the Father, so the Father can glorify the Son in order to glorify the Holy Spirit who then…
The triune God, living in perfect community and harmony with himself allows us to be a part of this circle and helps us to glorify him with our testimonies of his working in our lives, with our times together in community and in showing him in our lives and actions.
Father, glorify yourself in and through us. Be blessed as we bless. So be it.
