Beginnings

“Do not despise the day of small beginnings” we don’t know where these things will lead.

This verse speaks to me. The NLT version of Zechariah 4.10 says: “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…”

The context is the laying of the foundation of the new temple after the first one (expertly constructed during Solomon’s reign when silver was made as common as stones (1 Kings 10.27) – which speaks to the opulence of that temple) was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar circa 587BC.

The principle here is one of not being unduly disheartened by something that seems inconsequential.

I feel this way often:

What good could I do? What prayer can I pray? Do my prayers even make a difference? What action can I take? – and I despise a small beginning.

This blog is a small beginning. One that I trust “the LORD rejoices to see begin”.

God loves to see us take the step:

• The step toward Him;
• The step toward another;
• The step toward action.

The first step is always the hardest and the smallest. But we should not look down upon this small step in our lives as, more often than not, it is a giant leap for the Kingdom.

Father, May You help us to see our significance to You. Help us to begin. We desire to please You and have You rejoice. Holy Spirit, direct us, give us wisdom. For Jesus name’s sake. – Amen
