Peace peace

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. …” – Matthew 10.34-36.

Christianity has been, arguably, the most divisive religion/ideology/lifestyle in all history. Sometimes for the wrong reasons (we need to own that) but very often because of the very reasons Jesus said – families become battle grounds as the Kingdom advances.

We must remember that the fight is not against flesh and blood, but especially where people are close and suddenly one of them changes because Jesus has gripped them, there will be conflict.

Suddenly the worldly things that were once shared between family members or friends or colleagues, can no longer be shared. Jokes that were once laughed at bring discomfort. Complaining which everyone took part in is now not possible because the Christian in the room always shows the reason to hope in times of affliction.

A sword is brought and peace leaves.

Yet… Yet Jesus brings peace. Peace of mind and heart – do not be anxious; peace of soul and spirit – do not fear those that can hurt your body (and you feelings?); peace, knowing that what we see around us is passing away and soon (and very soon) we are going to see the King as the mortal is rolled up and the immortal is unfurled.

The Kingdom of God is forcefully advancing…

We need to be forceful once more. Be the people who love and respect, but don’t stand for what is wrong or unjust taking our cue from the Master who carried the fruit of the Spirit perfectly, but also called men ‘white washed tombs’, ‘snakes’, ‘fools’ and ‘hypocrites’.

Dear Lord, lead us into your path and will. Allow us to be what you are calling us to be in this age – speakers of Truth who shine light on every situation. Give us the boldness and strength in the power of Holy Spirit, to glorify you no matter the consequences or push back: but to do so in Your way – on love and forthrightness. Be blessed by us we pray. So be it!
